Steam shower enclosures in Dallas, TX are a different build from a normal shower: the glass runs to the ceiling, a transom panel closes the gap a standard enclosure leaves open, and every joint is sealed so the steam stays where you put it.
We build the glass side of it — enclosure, transom, seals, and hardware rated for constant vapor. The steam generator itself is plumbing and electrical work, and we coordinate around that trade rather than pretending to do it.
What makes a steam enclosure different
Full height, sealed to the ceiling
A standard enclosure deliberately leaves a gap at the top so the space breathes. A steam enclosure cannot — the glass runs floor to ceiling and the header is sealed, or the steam simply leaves.
Transom panel
Where the ceiling is higher than a standard door, a fixed transom panel bridges the gap above the door. It is the piece most people have never heard of and the one that decides whether the room actually holds steam.
Vapor-rated hardware and seals
Constant humidity is hard on hinges, seals, and any untreated metal. Hardware and gasketing get specified for that environment rather than reused from a dry-bath enclosure.
Glass that survives the moisture
This is the one application where a hydrophobic coating stops being a nice-to-have. Constant vapor plus North Texas water spots glass fast, and steam enclosures are the first place it shows.
Where we fit in the project
Steam showers are a multi-trade job and the glass goes in near the end. The waterproofing, the generator, the water supply and the dedicated circuit are all settled before we measure — and we measure the opening as built rather than off a drawing, because ceilings and curbs in a finished room are rarely where the plan said they would be. We order the enclosure and transom to those dimensions, install, seal, and hand it over. One company owns the glass scope from measurement through the warranty.
Who builds it
Donavon Wheeler runs the DFW operation out of Corinth and measures the openings himself. Infinity is family-owned with 30+ years of custom glass behind it — the same shop that builds our frameless enclosures builds the steam ones, with the transom and sealing detail that application needs. Glass is ordered from Cardinal Glass, Guardian, and Pilkington to the measured dimensions. We are fully insured and estimates are free.
In April 2026 we installed a two-panel frameless enclosure in a Castle Hills custom home in Lewisville — 1/2-inch low-iron glass, brushed gold hardware, one corner closed with a precision miter joint. The steam-shower exposure in that room is why the clip backing was specified moisture-resistant rather than standard. The measure ran 90 minutes, the glass arrived eight business days later, and the install was a half-day.
Questions we get about steam enclosures
Do you install the steam generator as well as the glass?
No, and we would rather say so up front. The steam generator is plumbing and electrical work — it needs a water supply, a drain, and a dedicated circuit run by licensed trades. We build and install the glass: the enclosure, the transom, the seals, and the hardware. On most projects we are coordinating with your builder or plumber and setting our glass once their rough-in is done.
What makes a steam shower enclosure different from a normal one?
A standard shower enclosure is designed to breathe — there is usually a deliberate gap at the top so moisture escapes. A steam enclosure has to do the opposite. The glass runs to the ceiling, a transom panel closes the space above the door, the header is sealed, and the door gasketing is chosen to hold vapor rather than just stop splash. Build it like a normal enclosure and the steam escapes into the bathroom instead of staying in the shower.
Can an existing shower be converted to a steam shower?
Sometimes, and the glass is rarely the hard part. The room needs a fully waterproofed enclosure, a sloped ceiling or the right height, a generator with somewhere to live, and the electrical to feed it. If your contractor has confirmed all that, we can measure and build the enclosure and transom to suit. If it is still an open question, that conversation belongs with your builder before it belongs with us.
Should steam shower glass get a protective coating?
It is the strongest case for one we see. A steam enclosure holds hot vapor against the glass every time it runs, and in moderately hard North Texas water that spots and eventually etches faster than in a standard shower. We recommend specifying a hydrophobic coating at the time of order, when it goes on clean glass and works best.
