Reeded Glass Shower Doors Installed Across Dallas–Fort Worth
Reeded glass shower doors carry a run of vertical channels cast into the pane, so the surface has ridges you can feel as well as see. The ribs bend light instead of blocking it, which is how the glass gives you privacy without turning the shower into a dark box.
The texture is pressed into the sheet at the mill, so it is chosen at order time rather than added later. We measure the finished opening, order the panel cut to it, and install it.

The difference between reeded and frosted is easiest to see in cross-section — one bends the light, the other scatters it.
What to settle before the glass is ordered
Ribs run vertical, and it matters
Reeded sheet has a grain. Run it vertically and the channels lengthen the room and shed water down the flutes; run it horizontally and every ridge becomes a ledge that holds spots. We set it vertical unless you ask otherwise.
Distortion, not blur
Frosted glass scatters light evenly and reads flat. Reeded bends it, so shapes behind the pane break into vertical bands. It is the more forgiving of the two on a shower you look at every day.
Which face goes in
The textured side normally faces out of the wet area. Ribs pointed into the spray collect soap in every groove, and that is the single decision people most often regret after the fact.
Hardware is unchanged
Clamps, hinges and pulls mount to the flat face exactly as they do on clear glass, so a reeded panel drops into a standard frameless build with no special parts and no compromise in the fittings you pick.

Donavon Wheeler runs the DFW operation out of Corinth and measures these openings himself. Infinity Glass & Glazing is family-owned with 30+ years of custom glass behind it. We order reeded sheet from suppliers including Guardian, cut to the opening we measured, and one company owns the job from that measure through the warranty. Fully insured, and estimates are free.
Our most recent reeded installation was completed in May 2026 in Stonebridge Ranch, McKinney — a home-office barn door in the same fluted sheet, hung on soft-close track. We are saying barn door rather than shower on purpose: reeded is a glass we work with regularly, and the shower application is the same panel in a wet setting with different hardware. All enclosure glass we install meets the 2024 IRC 308 safety standard, tempered and tagged to ANSI Z97.1.
Questions we get about reeded glass
Is reeded glass private enough for a shower?
It gives you moderate privacy, not full obscurity. The flutes break an outline into vertical bands so a person reads as a shape and a movement rather than detail, at roughly the level of a heavily textured privacy pane. If you want the shower fully opaque, frosted or acid-etched glass is the correct choice and we would tell you so.
Is reeded glass harder to clean than clear glass?
The flat face cleans identically. The textured face takes longer because a squeegee rides the ridges instead of the valleys, so hard-water spotting sits in the grooves. Two things solve most of it: face the texture away from the spray, and treat the wet side with a hydrophobic coating so water sheets off rather than beading and drying.
Can reeded glass be used on a frameless enclosure?
Yes. Reeded is supplied as tempered safety glass in the same thicknesses as clear, so it takes standard frameless clamps, hinges and channel exactly as a clear panel does. The one detail worth planning is where a hinge lands, because a hinge shoe sitting across the ribbed face reads slightly busier than one on a flat pane.
Can I add reeded texture to the shower doors I already have?
No, and it is worth knowing why. The reeding is rolled into the sheet while the glass is still forming, and the panel is tempered afterwards — tempered glass cannot be cut, ground or re-textured without shattering. Changing to reeded means new panels for that opening. We can measure what you have and tell you what replacing it involves.
