A double vanity mirror installation places either one wide mirror or two matched individual mirrors above a two-sink bathroom vanity. The two-mirror configuration is the top preferred setup in DFW master bathrooms (NKBA 2024). Installed cost ranges from $300 to $900 for custom fabrication in DFW (HomeGuide 2025). Double vanity bathrooms are included in 48% of all new construction homes over $500K in the DFW metro (NAHB 2025).

The single-vs-two-mirrors decision is one of the bigger style calls in a master-bathroom remodel. Neither is "right," but the planning details — sizing, alignment, lighting coordination, and fabrication tolerance — are more involved than a single-sink setup. This guide walks through how we handle double vanity mirror projects across the DFW metro.

Why Double Vanity Mirrors Require More Planning Than Single Mirrors

Double vanity mirrors require more planning because everything must coordinate twice: both mirrors must match each other exactly in size and edge finish, align on a shared horizontal line, center over each sink, and coordinate with two separate light fixtures and any wall sconces. A 1/4-inch misalignment that would go unnoticed on a single mirror reads as an obvious mistake with two mirrors side-by-side.

The three planning layers that single-mirror setups do not have:

  1. Lateral alignment. The center of each mirror must line up with the center of each sink basin, not the center of the countertop or vanity drawer.
  2. Vertical alignment. The top and bottom edges of both mirrors must be on the same horizontal plane. This requires a laser level during install, not a bubble level.
  3. Fixture coordination. Wall sconces, light fixtures, and outlets all have to fall into logical positions relative to both mirrors simultaneously.

Planning also has to address whether the wall space between the two sinks is wide enough for a pendant, sconce, or piece of art — and whether the mirrors leave room for it.

What Are the Options for Double Vanity Mirror Configurations?

The four most common double vanity mirror configurations in DFW are: (1) Two matched individual mirrors centered over each sink, (2) one wide mirror spanning the full vanity width, (3) two matched framed mirrors with decorative frames, and (4) two LED backlit mirrors for a hotel-spa feel. Two separate mirrors is the #1 preferred configuration per the NKBA 2024 design trends survey (NKBA 2024).

The width of wall space between the two sinks determines whether you have room for a center sconce, pendant, or decorative element.

Two matched individual mirrors (most popular). Each mirror centers over its own sink. Works with both narrow and wide double vanities (60-96 in.). Allows a center sconce, light fixture, or art piece on the wall between them.

One wide continuous mirror. A single mirror 8-12 in. narrower than the full vanity width. Creates a spa / luxury-hotel look. Requires a single wide light fixture or two outboard sconces. Best with vanities under 84 in. because seaming is required beyond that.

Two matched framed mirrors. Same as configuration 1 but framed. Reads more traditional and transitional. The frames coordinate with cabinetry trim.

Two matched LED backlit mirrors. Each mirror is individually lit with integrated LEDs. Eliminates the need for separate light fixtures. Highest-end look, highest cost. See our LED backlit mirror installation guide for detail.

One Large Mirror vs Two Separate Mirrors: Which Is Better?

Two separate mirrors is preferred for DFW double vanities because it mirrors the visual rhythm of two sinks and allows wall decor or a center sconce between them. One large mirror works well for smaller double vanities (under 72 in.) or when the goal is a sleek hotel-minimalist look. Two mirrors is better for 72+ in. vanities, traditional styles, and homes where one partner wants to use the mirror while the other showers.

If your two sinks are more than 30 inches apart center-to-center, strongly consider two separate mirrors. One continuous mirror over widely spaced sinks stretches the reflection in ways that look awkward when anyone is actually using the vanity.

How Much Does Double Vanity Mirror Installation Cost in DFW?

Custom mirror fabrication for double vanity sets costs $300-$900 total in DFW for two matched frameless mirrors (HomeGuide 2025). Adding frames takes total installed cost to $600-$1,400. Adding LED backlighting per mirror takes total installed cost to $1,000-$2,400. Installation labor is higher than for single mirrors due to the precision alignment required.

Cost breakdown examples:

Two 28x36 in. frameless polished mirrors over a 60-in. vanity:

  • Mirror glass (2 pcs): $170-$280
  • Edge polish: $80-$120
  • Installation: $200-$275
  • Total: $450-$675

Two 30x40 in. custom-framed (wood) mirrors over a 72-in. vanity:

  • Mirror glass: $200-$330
  • Frames (2): $280-$480
  • Installation: $200-$275
  • Total: $680-$1,085

Two 30x40 in. LED backlit mirrors over a 72-in. vanity:

  • LED mirror fixtures (2): $600-$1,400
  • Electrical coordination: $150-$300
  • Installation: $200-$300
  • Total: $950-$2,000

How Are Double Mirrors Measured and Installed to Align Perfectly?

Double vanity mirrors are aligned using a laser level and shared top-edge reference line. Both mirrors are cut to exactly the same dimensions (within 1/16 in.), their mounting hardware is set at identical heights on both sides of the wall, and they are lifted into position together rather than sequentially. Final adjustment uses the laser line as the reference — not eye-balling.

  1. 1

    On-site measurement and layout

Measure vanity width, sink basin centers, wall width, and existing light fixture positions. Mark center lines on the wall above each sink with painter's tape.
  2. 2

Fabricate mirrors as a matched pair

Both mirrors are cut from the same stock sheet where possible. Edge polish is done in the same session with the same profile wheel. QC verifies they match within 1/16 in.
  3. 3

    Set the horizontal reference line

A laser level projects a line across the full wall above both sinks at the intended top-edge height. All mounting hardware — cleat, J-bar, or clips — is installed relative to this line, not measured separately.
  4. 4

Mount the cleats or J-bars simultaneously

Both mounting systems are installed before either mirror is hung. This lets us verify both mounts are on the same horizontal plane.
  5. 5

    Hang both mirrors, adjust together

Both mirrors go up within the same 30-minute window so any adjustment in one prompts matching adjustment in the other. Shim and micro-adjust using the laser line.
  6. 6

    Final leveling and centering

Bubble-check both mirrors for plumb. Verify centering over each sink with a plumb line dropped from the mirror's center to the sink drain. Seal bottom edges with clear silicone.

What Edge and Hardware Options Are Available for Double Vanity Mirrors?

Double vanity mirrors use the same edge and hardware options as single mirrors, but both mirrors must match exactly. The most popular DFW combinations are: (1) matched flat-polish frameless mirrors, (2) matched 1/2-in. beveled frameless mirrors for a slightly more formal look, (3) matched thin matte-black or brass metal-framed mirrors, and (4) matched halo-lit LED frameless mirrors.

Edge treatments (both mirrors must match):

  • Flat polish (default, most popular)
  • 1/2-in. bevel (adds subtle elegance)
  • 1-in. bevel (classic / traditional)
  • Pencil polish (softer rounded edge)

Mounting visibility:

  • Hidden J-bar (no visible hardware)
  • Decorative Z-clips (visible, becomes part of design)
  • Adhesive + top safety clips (installed permanently)

Paired backing options:

  • Standard silver-backed mirror
  • Low-iron clear mirror (for white interiors, removes green tint)
  • Antique-aged mirror (for decorative rooms only, not grooming)

Design Trends in Double Vanity Bathrooms Across Dallas-Fort Worth

Current DFW design trends in double vanity mirror installations: (1) Two matched halo-lit LED mirrors with adjustable CCT, (2) two matched arched-top mirrors for a European feel, (3) oversized single mirrors over floating vanities in contemporary homes, (4) matched black metal-framed mirrors paired with black faucets and hardware, and (5) round individual mirrors (30-36 in. diameter) for transitional and mid-century modern baths.

Market drivers behind the trend: double vanity bathrooms are included in 48% of new construction homes over $500K in DFW (NAHB 2025), and master bathrooms with matched his-and-hers mirrors are listed as a top-three resale feature by regional realtors. Two separate mirrors is also easier to coordinate with dual-user workflows — one person getting ready for work while the other is still waking up.

Frequently Asked Questions About Double Vanity Mirror Installation

Should I get one large mirror or two separate mirrors for a double vanity?

Two separate mirrors is the preferred configuration for most DFW double vanities, especially vanities 72 inches or wider. Two mirrors mirror the visual rhythm of two sinks, allow a center sconce or art piece on the wall between them, and are easier to coordinate with dual-sink workflows. One large mirror works well for narrower double vanities (under 72 in.) or modern minimalist styles where a single continuous reflection is the design goal.

How do you ensure double mirrors are perfectly level and aligned?

We use a laser level to project a continuous horizontal reference line across both mounting positions. Both mirrors are cut to identical dimensions at our Corinth shop (within 1/16 in.), and both mounting systems are installed relative to the laser line — not measured from the floor or ceiling. Final alignment is checked with a plumb line from the center of each mirror to the center of each sink drain. This eliminates the drift that happens when mirrors are measured and hung sequentially.

What size mirrors work best over a 72-inch double vanity?

For a 72-in. double vanity with sinks typically spaced 34-36 in. apart center-to-center, two matched mirrors in the 26-30 in. wide by 36-42 in. tall range work well. This leaves about 6-8 in. of wall space between the mirrors for a sconce or pendant, plus 4-6 in. on the outside of each mirror for a lamp or sconce. If the wall is short on either side, we adjust proportions.

Can you install lighted mirrors as a double vanity set?

Yes — matched LED backlit mirrors are one of the most popular high-end DFW double vanity setups. We fabricate or source two identical LED mirrors, coordinate the electrical so both connect to the same bathroom circuit (saving a second circuit run), and install them with matched alignment. Most premium LED mirrors have a pairing mode so both brighten and dim together from either touch switch.

How long does double vanity mirror installation take?

Installation typically takes 3-5 hours on site for standard double vanity configurations — longer than single-mirror installs because of the precision alignment work. LED backlit double sets take 4-6 hours including electrical coordination. Fabrication time (cutting, polishing, edge finishing both mirrors) is 7-14 business days from order to install date, depending on material availability and finish options.
